New Jersey Tea - Ceanothus americanus

Ceanothus americanus, also known as New Jersey Tea, is a perennial wildflower native to Michigan. New Jersey Tea reaches 3 feet tall and flowers from June to August with stubby bursts of delicate white flowers. It prefers partial shade to full sun, medium to dry soil and will grow in loam or sand. It is able to fix nitrogen, making it a good choice for poor soil.

New Jersey Tea is a great pollinator plant and good chrysalis support for butterfly gardens. It's a popular host plant for butterflies and moths and also supplies hummingbirds with nectar. This plant is wildlife snack food. If you have deer or rabbit issues, fence it well until it is well established. If you need a similar look without the fencing, Meadowsweet and Mountain Mint are deer resistant.
