Joe Pye Weed - Eutrochium maculatum

Eutrochium maculatum, also known as Spotted Joe Pye Weed, is a perennial wildflower native to Michigan and the UP.
This attractive plant reaches 5 feet tall and flowers from July to August/September with a large, showy, rose-colored cluster of flowers. These huge flowers offer abundant resources to bees and butterflies, even hummingbirds, and are an absolute pollinator magnet. They are even fragrant!

Joe Pye Weed prefers full sun to partial shade, medium to wet soil and will grow in muck, clay or loam. It spreads by rhizome, enthusiastically under ideal conditions, but is kept in check with a bit of competition or on shadier or drier sites. Pairs well with Cutleaf Coneflower, Flat-topped Aster, Marsh Marigold, Shining Aster, Blue Joint Grass, Giant Sunflower, and Canada Anemone. This is a must-have for a butterfly or pollinator garden. It is also a great addition for naturalized ditches and wet areas, or in quiet areas along streams and lakes.
