Golden Alexander - Zizia aurea
Zizia aurea, or Golden Alexander, is a perennial wildflower native to Michigan and the UP. It grows approximately 3 feet tall, and blooms early, usually June, with a yellow cluster of blossoms popular with pollinators, especially butterflies. Golden Alexander is even a host plant for the Tiger Swallowtail butterfly.
Golden Alexander prefers dappled shade and moist soil, but will tolerate full sun and medium soil, including loam, clay, and sandy loam. Under the right conditions, this plant spreads with enthusiasm by seed. Great for ditches and meadows.
