Bulblet Fern - Cystopteris bulbifera

Cystopteris bulbifera, also known as Bulblet Fern, is a perennial plant native to Michigan and the UP. It is partial to part to full shade and moist rocky or peaty well-drained soil, often found on shaded slopes or banks and in the crannies of rock outcroppings or cliffs. It is a small plant, reaching 8 inches tall and wide and doesn't do well with competition. It prefers limestone substrates. Bulblet Fern can form clumps by rhizome or when the bulblets form new plants.
